"Hairdresser" Ouka Leele

LOEWE presents exhibition of surrealist photographs by Ouka Leele at its Gran Vía store in Madrid, its oldest store in the world.

Born in Madrid in 1957 and still residing in the Spanish capital, Ouka Leele is a key figure of the dynamic 1980s art scene associated with the ‘Movida’, the explosion of countercultural energy —spanning and cross-pollinating between film, music, painting and other media—that took over Madrid after the end of the dictatorship in 1975.

Known for its surrealist sense of humour and characteristic technique —executed by work defined its times and continues to be relevant, as evinced by its inclusion in collections and institutions such as the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía in Madrid, Lisbon’s Instituto Cervantes and the Fondation Cartier in Paris.

Hairdresser opens on 11 January 2017 and will remain on view through 26 February 2017.
