Writing the Prado 2024

We’re proud to announce that John Banville has been selected as the fourth author to participate in the Writing the Prado residency programme. A joint initiative by The Prado and LOEWE FOUNDATION, the programme invites internationally renowned writers to engage with the museum’s collections and rich history as a source of inspiration for literary works that will be published by the museum and literary magazine Granta.

John Banville

Born in Wexford, Ireland in 1945 and now living in Dublin, John Banville is a novelist, screenwriter, playwright, and literary critic whose novels include The Sea, 2005, winner of the Man Booker Prize and most recently, Lock-Up, 2023. He was awarded the Austrian State Prize for Literature in 2013, the Franz Kafka Prize in 2011, the Irish PEN Award in 2013, and the Prince of Asturias Award in 2014.
