Our latest store in the heart of Munich

An intimate environment on a large scale, the new LOEWE Maximilianstraße store intersperses ready-to-wear and accessories with pieces of art, craft and design curated by Jonathan Anderson, establishing a fluid relationship between the garments and pieces that one might find in an art collector’s home.

In keeping with the historic character of the two-storey building, the store adds contemporary interior design details to complement the vernacular architecture. Corrugated columns are a nod to the classical Doric style while the stair is clad in high-quality Campaspero stone. Braded maple wood and smooth pink concrete adorn the walls, floors and structural furniture, while a vertical garden is installed as the focal point of the entire space, a feature borrowed from the CASA LOEWE flagship stores in London and Madrid.

Art collection

The artwork exhibited at LOEWE Maximilianstraße represents our deep commitment to craft, featuring many artists who we have a long-standing relationship with. They include LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize 2018 finalist, Japanese ceramist Takuro Kuwata, whose work will be shown alongside a monumental basket by 2018 finalist, Irish artist Joe Hogan, and two works by 2017 winner, the German master craftsman Ernst Gamperl. The space also features a ceramic piece by German potter Beate Kuhn and a tapestry by Enrico David. An additional highlight is the eight 17th – 19th Century portrait miniatures that influenced the LOEWE Fall/Winter 2019 womenswear collection.

Meanwhile, contemporary furniture also inhabits the space, with Utrecht recliners by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld joining a stone table by Axel Vervoordt.

Handwoven wool carpets by Jason Collingwood have been specially commissioned to sit alongside circular esparto grass rugs, native to Murcia in Spain.
