Sustainability at LOEWE
We’re combining historical craft with new technologies to become more sustainable and reduce our impacts. Our sustainability strategy is based on the LVMH Life 360 programme, which sets precise environmental targets for 2023, 2026 and 2030.

Climate and carbon
We are committed to continuously enhancing the environmental performance of our stores, offices, ateliers, and production sites. In recent years, we’ve made meaningful progress by introducing LED lighting, smart energy monitoring systems, and high-efficiency air conditioning across many of our global locations. Today, 19 of our sites are LEED-certified – an internationally recognised standard awarded to buildings that meet high benchmarks for energy efficiency and sustainable construction.

Products and materials
We source only high-quality materials, guided by principles of traceability, fair conditions for farmers, animal welfare, and biodiversity protection. All our suppliers are required to adhere to the LVMH Supplier Code of Conduct, which promotes fair, socially responsible, and environmentally sustainable practices. At the same time, we are steadily increasing the use of certified, organic, and innovative materials throughout our products.
Leather is at the root of our craft. Since 2013, LOEWE has been a member of the Leather Working Group, an international organisation that promotes responsible leather practices. As of 2024, 99% of our leather comes from certified tanneries. Beyond sourcing, we are committed to minimizing our environmental impact. In 2021, we launched the Surplus Project, transforming leftover leather from past collections into iconic bags including the Flamenco Surplus or Woven Basket. And in 2023 we opened our first ReCraft stores in Japan, where a full-time leather artisan repairs and maintains LOEWE leather items.

Our packaging
Every detail of our packaging is considered – from the materials we use to the way products are transported. Our shopping bags and boxes are made from Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified paper, supporting responsible forest management. To reduce environmental impact during distribution, some of our boxes are designed to be fully collapsible, lowering their volume in transit. We also use certified recycled cotton for our dust bags.

Crafting communities
As part of our commitment to craft, we actively support artisans and educational programmes around the world – fostering skills, innovation, and securing the next generations of artisans.

Education
In Madagascar, we have partnered with Envol Madagascar to build a training school focused on raffia weaving, embroidery, and sewing techniques. In Colombia, through a collaboration with Fundación Solidaridad por Colombia, we run a scholarship programme enabling the children of basket-weaving craftswomen to attend university. In Senegal we supported Les Foyers de Tambacounda – a women’s community centre established by the Josef & Anni Albers Foundation in close partnership with the non-profit organisation, Le Korsa. Meanwhile, LOEWE’s School of Craft in Madrid ensures the savoir faire of our skilled leather artisans is passed down through generations.

Supporting art and craft
LOEWE FOUNDATION supports and brings visibility to vanishing crafts worldwide. Since 2016, the Foundation has organised the annual LOEWE FOUNDATION Craft Prize, celebrating excellence, artistic merit, and innovation in modern craft. In 2021 the LOEWE FOUNDATION / Studio Voltaire Award provided seven artists with rent-free studio space, professional development, and a bursary for two years.
