LOEWE FOUNDATION x Ghibli Museum

Continuing our support and celebration of craft in its many forms, LOEWE FOUNDATION announces a three-year sponsorship of the Tokuma Memorial Cultural Foundation for Animation to maintain cultural programming at the Ghibli Museum, Mitaka.

President of LOEWE FOUNDATION Sheila Loewe says, “We are very proud to support the Ghibli Museum, one of Japan’s most beloved creative institutions… We look forward to becoming a part of their story, helping to share the unique charm of the Ghibli Museum around the world.” Ghibli Museum’s Managing Director Kazuki Anzai says, “We are delighted to see LOEWE, a maison with craftsmanship at the core of its identity, and Ghibli Museum, who communicates the warmth of handcraft through animating thousands of drawings, come together.”

About Ghibli Museum

The brainchild of Studio Ghibli co-founder Hayao Miyazaki, the Ghibli Museum opened in October 2001 on the southwest side of Inokashira Park as both a cultural hub dedicated to the art and craft of animation, and an oasis of natural green spaces. Home to interactive exhibitions featuring the beloved characters and hand-drawn scenes from Studio Ghibli films including My Neighbor Totoro and Spirited Away, the museum is founded on Miyazaki's wish to embrace people’s ability ‘to feel’ to the fullest extent, a warmth that is truly human.

Craft lies at the heart of LOEWE and Studio Ghibli, a shared value that has led to our mutually enriching long-time collaboration. We are both committed to promoting the warmth of the hand-made—be it artisan-crafted leather pieces or animated films composed of thousands of hand-drawn pictures.
