Exploring the impact of Mackintosh´s creative vision and enduring legacy

The next event in the ´LOEWE Conversations´ series brings author, gallerist and Mackintosh expert Roger Billcliffe together with renowned design critic and art historian Anatxu Zabalbeascoa to discuss the life, work and legacy of Charles Rennie Mackintosh.

The talk coincides with the launch of The LOEWE Mackintosh Collection, a range of men´s and women´s Ready-to-Wear and Accessories inspired by the great Scottish polymath. Celebrated for his signature aesthetics and impressive creative output – distinctive architectural idioms, avantgarde furniture design and botanical watercolours – Mackintosh´s influence continues to reach far and wide. Our distinguished panel of speakers will explore Mackintosh´s journey and the impact his work has had on Modernism, the 20th Century Arts & Crafts Movement, and beyond.

 

The event takes place at CASA LOEWE Madrid on 12 December at 8pm.

Roger Billcliffe

After a role presiding over the largest collection of Mackintosh´s work at the University of Glasgow Art Collections, Roger went on to write several books about the famed Scottish designer, which have since become the standard references for his work. In 2017, he published the first study of the art created by Mackintosh and his friends – Herbert MacNair, Frances and Margaret Macdonald – entitled ´Charles Rennie Mackintosh and the Art of The Four.´ He has also advised and curated many exhibitions of Mackintosh´s work around the world, from Tokyo to New York, London to Los Angeles.

 

Anatxu Zabalbeascoa

Architecture and design critic at El País, journalist and art historian, Anatxu has published more than fifteen books, including The New Spanish Architecture (Rizzoli New York, 1993) and Todo sobre la casa (Gustavo Gili, 2012). She has curated exhibitions at the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid and the MACBA in Barcelona, and has chaired the Jury of the Loewe Craft Prize since 2016.
