Joe McShea and Edgar Mosa

COAST: a film by Stephen Isaac-Wilson exploring the world of Joe McShea and Edgar Mosa, whose installation provides the backdrop for the LOEWE FW22 men’s runway show. Partners in life and work, the New York-based artists offer a glimpse of the origins, dynamics and inspiration behind their collaborative practice—an intimate portrait of co-creation.

A shared vision

Joe McShea and Edgar Mosa’s flag installations combine their interest in object symbolism and the hyper-geometry of textiles to create bold flag-raising spectacles and interventions in nature.

Originally inspired by the fabric movement captured in Baroque frescoes, their ‘faceless’ flags seek to strip away meaning and offer viewers a moment of pause.

Experimenting with context and environment, McShea and Mosa have installed the flags in a range of locations including New York and Ibiza where they were transformed by interactions with unpredictable elements such as sunlight, water and the wind.

The showspace

In contrast to windswept coastal surrounds, the flag installation at the LOEWE FW22 men's runway show creates a dense, labyrinthine effect; filling the showspace with a forest of draped fabric.
