Woven around the world

From the colourful Font tote to tactile new editions of the Puzzle, our iconic basket bags are made in Spain using raffia and iraca palm leaves that have been cultivated, harvested, sun-dried, and handwoven by artisans in Colombia, Morocco, and Madagascar.

Madagascar

Made from raffia sourced in Madagascar—which has an abundance of raffia palms growing in its humid tropical regions—leaves are harvested throughout the year, torn into thin strands, and meticulously hand-crocheted.

Colombia

Leaves from locally grown iraca palms are dried in the sun before being woven by artisans from Corporación Oficio y Arte, an organisation supporting women working in traditional crafts in Colombia.

Morocco

Raffia palm fronds are torn into strips and woven together using a needle threaded with a fine ribbon of raffia. This traditional technique reveals small asymmetries, making each basket unique.

For every basket bag sold, LOEWE will make a donation to the local communities who handweave them. The donation will help to provide university scholarships in Colombia, build a craft training school in Madagascar, and provide humanitarian relief following the 2023 earthquake in Morocco.
