Javier Carvajal International Architecture Award

Javier Carvajal (1926–2013), a key figure of modern architecture in Spain in the 1950s and 60s, is inextricably linked to the history of LOEWE and was instrumental in shaping the modern image of the house in the 20th century, through innovative product designs, new stores (including the iconic Madrid Serrano boutique, 1959), as well as striking showrooms and offices for LOEWE. As he reconfigures Loewe for the culture of today, current creative director Jonathan Anderson has been particularly inspired by this exceptional period of the brand’s past.

Since 2014 the LOEWE Foundation sponsors the Javier Carvajal International Architecture Award organised by the University of Navarra since 2012. Every two years, an award is given to an architect or institution with a substantial and acclaimed track record promoting and teaching architecture.

Swiss architect Mario Botta is the winner of the 2014 edition.
